If you love art, history, architecture and the Italian good life, visit Umbria. Our Italian cottage is an ideal holiday base to discover the wonderful countryside, towns, food and culture of Umbria and Tuscany.

Umbria is among the smallest regions of Italy and considered by many to be one of the most beautiful. Just over 800,000 people live in an area covering 8,456 sq km at the very heart of the Italian peninsula, spread out over the many townships which form Umbria’s urban framework.

Hidden Treasures

For art lovers, one of the many attractions of a holiday in Umbria is the exciting discovery of captivating and often beautiful images in almost every church, in any of the ancient hilltop towns dotted around the region. This reminder of the rich history of Umbria and Tuscany is certainly apparent in the fresco paintings that seem to merge with the buildings and landscape around them.

There are too many wonderful restaurants to mention, but, only 5 km from the house, is L’Antico Forziere, a lovely old medieval building, which houses a hotel and restaurant where we have enjoyed some excellent food. The presentation, as you can see below on the left, is wonderful and they have won top prizes in Italy for their desserts, which taste every bit as good as they look!

This is a region which still preserves the traditional celebrations, the folklore, fairs and festivals where local costume and local culture are kept very much alive and you can savour the real essence of Italy.

There are places to visit in Umbria that are simply not to be missed! We’ve put together some ideas of where to go and what to do in Umbria to help you make the most of your holiday. Take a look and please feel free to comment or contact us with your own experiences.

So much to do and see. One holiday in this Italian jewel is just not enough!
